FIGHTER AIRCRAFT COLLECTION (UK ONLY!!)anyone buying these??

Postby FETT1 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 5:31 pm

HI...I recently picked up a issue of COMBAT AIRCRAFT MONTHLY(DEC.2010) issue...I see there is another MAGAZINE type subscription being offered oversea's once again...and once again this can not be ordered outside the UK / IRELAND...BUMMER!!
Question...has anyone bought or seen these on their NEWSSTAND's??If so,are they worth the money ..??
Are they similar to past offering's....PLEASE POST

There was one offering that I had going back a bunch of year's ago only to have the magazine fold ...I believe many of these promo's are shared thru various manufacture's.

THANKS ...PLEASE SEE PICTURE BELOW...

There is a diecast series sold by subscription in Poland under the Amercom label ( just Google Amercom.com and you should see its website listing with various Polish names, pictures, etc.). The same models in 1:100th or 1:72nd scale are now being offered in the UK, which is what is referred to in the prior post. They are also starting to populate eBay individually. I have two of the models--a 1:100th scale Mirage and a 1:72nd scale Sopwith Strutter--- and they vary in quality. The Mirage isn't bad---except for its smaller scale--- but the Strutter is a fairly basic model, several cuts below the Corgi standard, in my opinion. I've heard that the quality of this series ranges from OK to not so hot, depending on the plane in question----which is par for such mass produced items. There is also a new Altaya jet fighter line in 1:72nd that is being offered in a similar fashion----by subscription coupled with a booklet about each plane---- which is described on the Altaya.fr website. Like the Amercom series, this has many of "the usual subjects" ( F-4, Mig-29, F-15, etc. ) but also includes an Etendard, SU-35 and Gripen, which I'm interested in. I have the Mirage 3000 from Altaya, which isn't half bad. Here are some pictures. First, the Amercom Strutter:Image

Sorry about my error on the Altaya Mirage III, not the 3000. The price varies between $25 and about $40 per piece for these models. EBAY seller, cristiantg, is now offering the Altaya Mirage III and F-100 ( item numbers 310290071522 and 310287956103, respectively ) as well as several of the Polish models---a Zero and Albatros.

It looks like the Mirage III offered by cristiantg has been snapped up, however he probably has more of these on the way so if anyone is interested, keep checking his site.

I've got the Amercom 1/72 Harrier which is a plastic replica of the Corgi Aviation Archive AA32413 released in 2009. AS seen from the photos, the panel lines are nearly identical as is the paint scheme and tampo printing with just a few minor differences. The metal Corgi is almost twice as heavy (8.75oz) versus the all plastic Amercom (4.75oz). The wheels and payload are fixed on the Amercom, whereas, the Corgi models let you customize with wheels up, etc. The Amercom has a better and sturdier stand (IMHO) versus the Corgi which uses a soft plastic post which causes my Harriers to "sag" over time. :(
