Good idea about the meeting, however the past has shown it's more difficult than it seems!
Last October we had a MAC meeting in conjunction with the annual Airline Collectibles Show at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum, in Houston. The location is at the center of country, which keeps everyone's travel time to a minimum. The airport - Hobby Airport - is a major hub for Southwest Airlines, so that keeps travel costs to a minimum. Heck, even hotel and food costs are low!
The meet being held in conjunction with the Collecibles show made the presence of "things to buy" a given, as well as giving MACers an opportunity to sell their trinkets, if desired.
As it was only the four of five of us in the local area turned up. Not only did we enjoy the show but we all met for an after-show meeting and after meeting dinner! We all had a good time and had much talk of models, as well as examining some items brought for that purpose.
I had attempted to get GR to come in for the show (if you have access to an aircraft you can actually Fly In!), but he declined stating a conflict. However, in the future it would be possible to have more official meets, demos and clinics during the show, if there is an interest. Mostly, it seems, toy collectors like to drink and talk!
The show is now scheduled for October 18th of this year. It's up to us to make it a MAC show - which is my full attention, as I am the show organizer for the Museum. And while I will be more than happy to welcome my fellow Texan collectors - we need the support of our far flung members!
I will be clearing the old polls and will soon begin promoting this year's show as well as trying to line up a "celebrity" for the show. I had tried to get GR here for that purpose simply because...he...well....there wasn't anyone like GR and I looked forward to honoring him.
Now, it's up to us.
Put the date on your calendar, although it's not yet settled totally.
If y'all want a MAC show - here it is. Support it!
