One of these planes is the Alps 737 in Lufthansa colors. The 727 in the same photo is unknown make, but it also exists with plastic fin and is very common today leading me to believe it's recent manufacture. The second is the Takatoku 727, which is very common in Pan American colors, note "T.T" trademark in diamond near the tail. The 747 is from Vispa Argentina and is mostly plastic; note the triangular wing lights.

Tin Douglas For the Lufthansa Fans

This one I have seen in Alitalia colors once, and American Airlines colors more frequently. First time I've seen it as Lufthansa. It's a late 70s Hong Kong plastic toy with tin upper fuselage only. I do not know the exact dimensions but I do know that it's slightly larger than the 1984 TN Hong Kong DC-10.

Thanks, Tone, for posting the pictures. I'm still looking for an Alps 737 in Lufthansa-colours. It's not a good reproduction of the real thing - but still a nice full-tin-model. I have seen the 727 in the lower part of the first picture with four jet-engines in the rear - which makes it a Vickers VC-10 or even an Ilyushin 62...

Of course these toys are seen "on line" and are not mine personally but I have a question: Was the "727 with four jets" a BOAC VC-10? I have never seen this plane like that. The United and TWA variants, with plastic tails, are very common toys today, leading me to think they were made fairly recently, despite their old-looking color schemes. When I bought one about six years ago the seller told me they were part of a lot from a toymaker that had gone out of business, and were in storage. It came packed in a header bag with Japanese characters and modern style graphics. There is no trademark of any kind on the toy or on the packaging. See below:

Sorry, Tone, I can't tell you if it was marked as a VC-10. I missed out on the eBay-auction... I wish I had got that model!

Look what I found. A photo of an Alitalia VC-10 marked as a DC-9.

Here is a Lufthansa 747 I saw recently. Owner states that wing span is 34.5 CM or 13 1/2 inches, length is 38 CM or 15 inches. I do not know this tooling or the manufacturer. It might be Takatoku - TT Toy.

Kyowa Toy Co

Postby Tone » Tue Nov 19, 2013 2:34 am

The manufacturer of some of the 727s seen here, and perhaps the VC-10s as well, is Kyowa Toy Co. of Tokyo. The firm had a globe trademark with something orbiting it, and a Japanese character on it.

The VC 10 in Lufthansa colours would have been brilliant. Great find! Interflug (East German Lufthansa) used the Il62. It would have been a sight to see the two machines together. :D
