Alps brand Piper

Lithographed tin plate toys. Anthony Duva 'Tone' one of the world's specialists and owner of one of the largest collections of tin aircraft is the moderator.

This very large Piper has a metal body and wings, rubber tires and plastic prop and canopy. The wing span is 20". Each wing attaches to either side of the body.

The toy plane has a nose gear, making it a "Tri Pacer." However, the plane is in military guise, making it a "Grasshopper" that should be a tail dragger. Note that the lithography has detail of rivets that would be absent on a plane made of wood and fabric.

It is usually found in its colorful "Sport Plane Piper" livery.
