New Matchbox

Postby MichaelB » Thu Jun 10, 2010 3:32 pm

Found a couple of new ones the other day. There are many new colors, which I don't keep track of and no airliners in Airline liveries - so I don't keep track of those either.
The two I found were a very nice little Cirrus Vision jet, licensed from Cirrus and called by it's name! They really have been bringing on the latest in bizjets of late, including the Piaggio, Adam Jet and Citation X. It's labeled as SB-91
The other looks like a very nice P-47 Thunderbolt - but with a very wrong wing! It's called a "Dive Bomber" but "P-47 Thunderbolt" isn't used anywhere...darn shame, and with a bit of work it would have been a nice P-47. It's labeled as SB-88.
This report is dedicated to the memory of Jim Galloway, who would have been excited about the news and probably would have already found them.

Those are very cute!

The last Sky-Buster I really liked (I remember you didn't like it at all, though) was that red and white Purina Biplane but my favorite was the 2008 Boeing 787 prototype.

The Robinson Helicopter is an exceptional toy model.

There are a number of nice planes in the "new" Matchbox line. I was surprised that they updated their "Biz Jet" from just looking like a Cessna Citation X to actually being a Cessna Citation X! It's a nice cast.
I like the series of "Light Jets", including this Cirrus. All we need now is an Eclipse and the front runners will be done...uh...and a Cessna Mustang...and a PiperJet, I suppose! Let's hope!
I just don't understand why they didn't do the "Dive Bomber" with the correct wing - is it that essential to escape paying a royalty for a generic WWII fighter - even if they didn't use the "proper" name? I thought Congress had passed a law saying it was OK to use PD names?
Again...Matchbox seems to clue in that they need a regular change to the release pieces in order to sell more. Model Power and the Postage Stamp line seemed to have missed that step...I haven't bought any in ages because the stock doesn't change...and they're much more expensive. On the other other, the "airliner" series seems to be hard to find in the stores. I need to give up on that line and order a bunch on-line.

A question.
How many airplanes do you have in your collection?

Ha! Unknown....about 1,500 DynaFlites, no question about that! Add in all the others...maybe an additional 1.5k. That's why I collect little ones, rather than 1/32 pieces!
In the old published MAQ there would be regular photos of folks "Living Rooms" populated with 1/24 and so airliner models! I was so envious! BUT...that would make life very tough to live! ...even if I wasn't married! ...with children. I'm not crazy - my mother had me tested!
Now that I have a museum to put the big stuff into I don't feel so bad.

1,500 dynaflites? Good god man, the worlds largest collection of them I am sure.
Lets see, those babies run on about $75-120 average a pop so that makes....oopps I thought we were taking about Dinkys.
Still, incredible collection my man.

Ha! Lessee....maybe 1,400 at "please take them" prices and about 100 at "somewhat more than that" - it all equals out!
Good thing I didn't build my collection just for their monetary value! ...I got 'em 'cause I love 'em!
If I was in it for the $$ I would bought other brands, like Armour! (or Ertl, Matchbox, Postage Stamp, et al)
But no...I will have to be satisfied with my treasure chest...

Ok this is crazy... I'm a Matchbox skybusters collector and I always refer to http://www.suchoj.com/SkyBusters/home.shtml
for the latest releases.

Clearly with the appearance of this Cirrus, the site has not been updated!

(or is it not that good of a reference to track down new releases?)

That's a great site! I haven't been there before. I do see some errors in a few of the listings, but they have done a good job of organizing it (they are Germans, afterall!). I also like the relative value guide, as I only have a vague notion of that for Matchobox. While I'm happy they are showing many of the various "toy" color changes - that's a part I could do without. I can accept line or specialty paints, but their current paint variations leave me uninterested.
And yes, they seem way behind the release curve on the web site.
Thanks for posting the link!
