No. 998 Rule Britannia

This Whispering Giant may have not "ruled" the skies, because she was merely a prop-jet and not a turbo-jet. Nevertheless her wing span was same as that of a 707.

She was a beautiful plane and REG Davies notes she was "built like the proverbial battleship."

always liked that model, they aren't around much.

It took along time to find the one with the red trim decals {on the left}

-here is the gray instead of silver version in red. Don't know if they did one in gray and blue, nor why they did them.

The box for this one reflects the gray color and red trim

Were the red trim and blue trim both used by the airline? Dasimperator?

I don't think Canadian Pacific ever used a blue cheat line in reality.

I managed to get one of these for an amazing 10 dollars off ebay as the seller had it listed as "Dinky Aircraft" and no pictures. I took a chance and was the only bidder. I was delighted when it arrived and it was the Britannia. All it needed was propellers. I painted the props red, but I may have been in error.

Red-brown should be correct. My specimen with blue cheatline has red-brown props, same the ones pictured in Sue Richardson's book.

I can assure you completely that Canadian Pacific Airlines never used blue cheatlines.

Interesting note: For some strange reason, there has been an interest in CPA within the 1:200 diecast aviation world, and both examples (a DC-6 by Hobby Master and a Britannia by Aviation200) have been incorrectly depicted the red cheatlines with white between them. It is interesting to note that the Dinky 998 with the red cheatlines is as close to accurate as one will get with the bare metal showing between the red. Odd how no progress has been made since the Dinky Toy version, eh?

Yes, I have a 40+ year interest (arm chair historian) with Canadian Pacific Airlines during the years (primarily) between 1950-1965. ;)

Speaking of blue cheatlines, I think I need to add this version to my list to buy as a complement my red version. Dinky did make the Britannia look quite majestic!
