Lufthansa Boeing 2707 from Daiya

Postby uk 75 » Mon Aug 22, 2011 11:21 am

A very small picture of my favourite version of the Daiya 2707.

I bought mine in the late 80s in a long gone old antique toys shops in Brussels.

Thanks for posting your photo! Do you have a Yonezawa 2707 as well? very similar except only made in hypothetical prototype colors to the best of my knowledge. I had one when I was little and I have one now! Only one Daiya, though, and that's the Pan Am version. I need to take both of them down, take some new photos, and run them up.

I do have the Yonezawa Boeing 2707. I bought it back in the 80s from a dealer in the then West Berlin.

As you say its colourscheme is the red white and blue colourscheme which seems to be an invention of
the toymaker as I have never seen it elsewhere.

Yonezawa had also made the earlier Boeing 733 SST in the same colour scheme. It is illustrated in a British
book on Tin Toys published in the 80s. I have also seen the same plane in Lufthansa colours offered on Ebay.

Unlike the Daiya 2707, the Yonezawas do not seem to have been available in Pan Am.

In contrast the Daiya 2707 has been seen on Ebay in Pan Am, TWA, American and Lufthansa (early and late 60s colours).
Another dealer also sold a Japan Airlines version. The smaller friction powered Daiya 2707 has been seen in BOAC(which I posted) Alitalia and Pan Am. There may also be an Air Canada version.

The later delta winged Boeing 2707-300 was made in Pan Am colours by two different manufacturers (They were auctioned
some years ago). One manufacturer (Daiya again?) also did it in Lufthansa late and TWA colours (again I have seen on Ebay going for silly money)

It would be interesting to know if anyone in Japan knows the history of the firm's production? There must be documentation somewhere..

All the best
Ralph (UK 75) :D

Nikko Gangu Boeing 2707

Postby Tone » Wed Aug 31, 2011 1:39 am

Nikko Gangu (=Toys Nomura "TN" trade mark) made the "Non-variable geometry" Boeing 2707 in Pan Am and TWA colors. The former has a blue plastic nose cone that moves up and down. The TWA has a red nose cone.

The later delta winged Boeing 2707-300 was made in Pan Am colours by two different manufacturers (They were auctioned
some years ago). One manufacturer (Daiya again?) also did it in Lufthansa late and TWA colours (again I have seen on Ebay going for silly money)

Yonezawa 2707

Here is an old photo of the YONEZAWA Boeing 2707 I have. Note the black rubber nose cone and the atom symbol on the tail fin. The plane on the box is marked as a "Boeing 733," yet it matches the 2707 in shape, as the 733 toy looks quite different.

Sadly my Daiya 2707 had been in the wars a bit and has a somewhat fraid box and
some damage here and there to the plastic. I have not, however, seen many
mint versions. Daiya also do the same plane in the late 60s Lufthansa colours, and
I have seen that on German Ebay occasionally. Also the later 2707-300 from TN
can sometimes be found in Germany. Unfortunately the fragile nature of the
working features on the models makes them usually less than mint and the boxes
have usually suffered as well.

Your collection of Lufthansa aircraft is superb. The Tomy 707 in Lufthansa early colours
looks much better than the SAS version which I bought in Belgium back in the 80s. Apart from
Ebay, where they usually command high prices , I have never seen one at a Collectors fair.
A BOAC version is said to exist. BOAC for me is like Lufthansa for you

The JAL model is lovely in the 60s scheme. I wonder if there are any other Daiya liveries out there.

Now I only need the version in the 1970s colours... Did "Daiya" really release this model in that livery???
