American Airlines Jet Liner (Caravelle)

If American Airlines operated the Caravelle, this toy is not what it would have looked like. :o

In 1961, United Air Lines inaugurated Caravelle jet service in the United States. Its special VI-R series had General Electric engines and lacked the ridge along the upper fuselage that characterized other Caravelles. This HAJI brand toy is derived from the DC-8 believe it or not! It is metal with plastic jet engines.

AA's choice for a twinjet was of course the BAC One-Eleven that AA called the 400 Astrojet. I have never seen a tin toy BAC One-Eleven in any color scheme.
