Lintoy MiG-21

Here are some Lintoy MiG-21's. The small one measures 4-3/8" from nose to tail. The larger one is 4-3/4".

Fascinating! I hadn't noticed the difference before! I wonder why they went to the trouble to redo the mold? ...and I wonder which one is the earlier, and latter version and which is more "accurate". I like the silver one!

Why did they choose the bright turquoise color? Matchbox also used this color for a Sky-Buster MiG-21 and I think the Flyers 80s re-issue came in turquoise as well.

Under some lighting conditions the silver paint used on the real MiG-21 takes a blueish hue (blue sky reflection?) but I would think that in the case of the Lintoy ones (not the Matchbox issue) they just used the same paint as the Tiger to spice up the boring silver scheme.

It's fun to look back and wonder about some of the color combinations that appear on model/toy airplanes of a certain age. I have found many that seem obviously based on the box art of many of the popular plastic model kits from the '60s. I know they got exported to Japan and the far east, and almost certainly influenced a generation of young men and boys, just like it did here. The fact that the "toy" may not be the same model as depicted on the box art is beside the point.
I also see where whatever factory was involved may have had gotten a good buy on a certain color of paint at it would appear all over the line, especially if it was a primary color.
I also see evidence where this seeming largess of paint is shared amongst a variety of producers, particularly in Hong Kong.
It's all just a delight to speculate on...

Michael, I remember asking the question years ago- Why are there so many Navy blue Corsairs with registration numbers 22 WR like Kidco, etc...?
you mentioned that this was the box cover for a kit- Wonder how many 22 WR Corsairs there are? Dyna? Bachmann?

Well, the relevant kit for that one is easy: A Monogram 1/48 Corsair with the same marks released in the late '60s and replete with working features. It was an awesome model for it's time and made huge waves in the plastic airplane kit market.
It's been re-released several times since then, although it no longer has the quality of later models of Corsairs. By today's standards it is a "toy".
You can also see it's influence in the DF Corsair with it's rows of underwing rockets, center line tank, and dual aerials.
I know y'all like to give me a hard time about this plastic kit stuff, but it's cross-over situations like this that make me glad I'm a modeler and a collector of same!

Tootsietoy made a little die cast Draken in the very early 70s. But you're right, it is nowhere near the Lintoy in quality and detail.

That box art reminds me vividly of a TV show I watched in 1977 and one I can still see occasionally today: Baa Baa Black Sheep.
