First issued in the 1950s, these were available in stores in Europe as late as 1978. Besides the plastic Hubley, isn't the Play Me Piper Tri-pacer the only other toy made of this aircraft?




The Play Me Wal is an excellent casting

I have a Tin plate Tri Pacer, Koji Yanagisawa informed me that Alps made it. It has a twenty-inch wing span. Off Topic so I won't post a photo here.

Play-Me, similar to Cragstan Wild Wings and also some of the 1976 Mandarin planes.

Tony, that Play Me F86D/L eluded me for many years, then for a while I found several- I think it was one of the first toys issued then later discontinued.
Early Play Me aircraft had peculiar and somewhat complicated folding gear when appropriate like that F-86D/L.
Later they eliminated that style gear and used the cast post and dumb-bell style.
Does your F-86D/L have that early style folding gear? I have yet to see that toy without it.

Yes, and one has broken off! You can see the nose wheel and strut, loose inside the packing, right near the nose.

Well, in the small world of collecting Play Me planes your F-86 is probably the rarest one in that series.
How many on this board do? I wonder.

Here is a link to a page showing a tin plate friction Play Me plane. It is a Convair F-106 similar to the no-name Japanese #33 toys that were one sold in US packed in "header bags" only the Play Me version came boxed.

I bet you didn't know the Play Me die casts lasted into the 80s and included an F-15.
