Tootsie Toy Lockheed Twin

Postby soslipstream » Mon Oct 03, 2011 2:41 pm

Hey All,

I have been working on a Tootsie-Toy Lockheed twin engine airliner. Its coming down to paint and would like to know if there was ever a blue fuselage on silver wings. Did the embossed lettering ever get painted? I would like to see any combination that you all have pictures of. I have included the picture of mine during restoration.

BTW, what was the original prop diameter?

Thanks, Tom

They came in a lot of different finishes, here are some of mine.
Take a look at the DC-2s as I expect some of the same finishes were applied to the Lockheed, especially the red and silver which I am told was in a special airplane set with all planes finished the same way.

A couple of things, The props were all anodized, parkerized whatever, giving a matt blackish finish.
Pay no attention to the camouflaged DC-2, it is a ww II period repaint

Did you know that EAL stands for "Amelia Earhart Lost?"

Well, that's a fine bit of trivia! I would have never thought that the TootsieToy Company would have ever been that sentimental/romantic.

EAL stands for Eastern Air Lines, not Amelia Earhardt Lost, as she disappeared in 1937,
and this plane was issued earlier, in 1935.

Tootsie Toy Lockheed Twin # 125 Model 10

Postby Tone » Sat Sep 27, 2014 1:10 am

Here is a photo that goes along with the old Clint Seeley + Robert Newson article on Tootsietoy planes:

http://www.tootsietoys.info/Tootsietoys-Aircraft.html

Last week a club member gave to me a toy model of a plane that he had bought at a garage sale. It looks like a post war toy because it has black wheels and the remains of blue props. However, I found a photo of a boxed # 5050 Playtime set that features the Model 10 in silver with red wings like this one.
