M in circle or Mandarin ?

Postby Tone » Wed Aug 18, 2010 12:55 am

I'm under the impression that the 1970s toy brand called Mandarin, out of Hong Kong, is the same as the toys marked "M" in a circle.

Imperial sold the series as "Planes of Fame" and a smaller size called "Prop Planes of WWII."

I was reading the posts about Dyna-Flites and Michael had posted a photo of the yellow SST. Here is the "M in a circle" brand SST that is cast with the wings in the landing position. They do not move!

Thank you! That's one that I have never seen! Cool! ...and it looks like it's siblings too, with those odd wing marks.
Yes, my understanding is that Mandarin and Circle M are one and the same, but their casts did get out into a lot of other lines, including Imperial and others. Overall, that's a good thing because the casts are much cruder than even DynaFlites are! It doesn't reduce their fun value, but one of the attractions of the DF line is that so many of the casts look so very good. The Mandarins and similar are cheap knock offs (and I say that with complete irony intended as there are some among us who regard DF as the cheap knockoffs!).
I see a note about the Planes of Fame and 1976.
That's a rare bird! ...good lookin' yellow, too!
Thanks
Michael

ah, Michael, re 'and I say that with complete irony intended as there are some among us who regard DF as the cheap knockoffs!'.
Who would say such a thing?
Blasphemy, desecration, profanation, and sacrilege!
I happened to know for a fact that some vintage mint on card DFs have sold for $8.00.

Another airliner I have, the DC-9, done up to barely resemble the original "Delta Prince" of 1965 (note sideways widget on tail) and - to foreshadow things to come - "BOEING" cast on the underside.

Love these planes! Many were unique subjects for these lines! Love to find a Bearcat...or the A-3!
Here's a photo showing the bottom of the DC-9, the circle M logo and more.
This is one of your photos, Tony, from the old group... :D
