Collecting Miniature Toy Aircraft
My Personal Passion

By Written and Photographed by Geoffrey Randolph 'G R' Webster

A while ago I wrote a book about collecting aircraft toys and models, mainly for my family, but I invited a few on my old collecting friends to take a look andif they wanted, to purchase a copy. It was a private printing, hard cover, color, large 'coffee table' sized, and very expensive. Around $100 or so
It was not offered on Amazon or other outlets. {It will not in the future either.}
I included in the book my aviation related experiences, how I began collecting, and a series of chapters on historic aircraft and their toys.
From the publisher's website:
"15 Chapters and over 300 color photographs of aircraft toys of all types from one of the largest collections in world. Articles cover airplane toys produced by manufacturers such as Dinky Toy, Tootsietoy, Solido, Mercury, DUX, Rico and INGAP, Britains, Hubley, Kilgore, Lehmann, Tippco, Wiking, Cruver, Comet/Authenticast and others. The airplane and helicopter toys described cover all types of collectible airplane toys, from those made in cast iron, die cast metal, plastic and even tin and pressed steel.
Seaplanes, military aircraft, commercial airliners, helicopters and even unusual aircraft such as the Yonezawa B-36, the Britains Short seaplane are featured as well as Hubley’s America and Friendship, Bremen, and Lindy Glider.
One chapter relates the author’s experience commanding helicopter gunship operations during the Vietnam war and how one movie had a major impact on his life, and nearly resulted in his death.
Rare prewar toys from TippCo, Rico and INGAP are also described and examples of these rare airplane toys illustrated in full vibrant color.
Full coverage of toys developed during the Korean War is covered in one chapter.
Some of the items illustrated are among the rarest airplane toys and have never before been covered in print."

Anyway, recently I was asked if it was still available."

I am doing a series of other books on our hobby that will be sold on Amazon and much less expensive. I expect the first of them to become available this summer.

GR,

I just finished reading your book, recommended here. It is great to see these wonderful pictures and descriptions you have put together. These toy airplanes are my passion as well. I have several of the planes that you show in the book, but many as so rare, even having the pictures is treet. My father started the collection I have back in the 70's and since his passing I have been adding to it every chance I get. You have put together a fine book and I highly recommend it to all who see this post. Also Thank You for the time you spend on this site. I know it is a labor of love, and we all are truly greatful for it.

Best Regards,

Mike (Toyplaneguy)

Thanks, Mike, glad you enjoyed it. I am doing some smaller and less expensive ones now which should be available in the Fall which cover some of the more popular lines, Dinky Solido, Mercury etc.
