Ertl Sikorsky Riptide Screamin' Mimi
Posted: Sat Aug 29, 2026 12:21 amI never owned the Ertl toy of the pink Sikorsky 58 "Screamin' Mimi" from the mid-1980s television series Riptide. However, I did possess the camouflage version, which I thought was a good-looking model.
I was looking at the photo in Sue Richardson's Diecast Aircraft international guide, of "Screamin' Mimi" to match it with the real thing, and also to compare the face painted on the nose to that of Phoebus Apollo ATL-98 Carvair that flew in Republic of South Africa.
I noticed that the real life "Screamin' Mimi" two rectangular intakes on the nose that became the face's "nostrils" are more pronounced that those of the Ertl casting; therefore, the face looks somewhat different.
