New member, saying hello!

I just found this website and have enjoyed reading many of the posts, so decided to join in. My name is Boyd Jenkinson (I also go by Mitch) and I am a retired Federal civil servant, though I also had 8 years military time in the US Air Force and Air National Guard. I was a "mustang", served 4 years enlisted reserve time in the Guard as an armament technician, went to USAF OTS and became a munitions officer for 4 more years. Then another 23 years in the Treasury Dept., where I recently took advantage of an early retirement opportunity.

I have loved airplanes since I was a small boy. I would have flown in the USAF, but a bad right eye knocked me out of the cockpit. I enjoy collecting current production military diecast airplanes, but I also have a few vintage examples as well. I am also interested in diecast tanks. I guess you can call me a collector, but I mainly buy airplanes that interest me, whether something I worked on in the USAF, WW2 planes I liked as a kid, planes my dad worked on (he was a chief master sergeant in the USAF), or similar themes. Meaning I do not have anything like a comprehensive collection of any one brand or even airplane type. I hope you all will put up with an eclectic mix of planes from me.

You might wonder about my name. My favorite USAF plane was the A-7D Corsair II, also known as the SLUF (short little ugly feller, though feller was the family friendly version ) So I use Slufstuff on all boards I post on.

I have a tendency to read a lot, and post a little, so do not be alarmed if I do not build up a big post count. That does not mean I am not here regularly. I look forward to learning more and getting to know you all.

Well, Sluffstuff/Boyd/Mitch, glad to have you here. Post anything you find interesting as I am certain someone else will share your passion.Or just watch and read.
I guess technically I, too, was a mustang. In the Army we also used the term to those who went from enlisted to officer ranks, though a 'real' mustang usually was an E-5 or higher. I went into OCS 5 months after enlisting as a PFC {E-2} and was a 2nd LT before my first year ended. From there to flight school, helicopters, then on for a year flying gunships in VN in 1968-69. That about did it for me and I left the service after a 3 year stint as an Aide de Camp to a MG.
Hadn't heard the term SLUFF but knew of BUFF. I understand if you swear in a post the software we use automatically changes it to something unusual, like s h * t becomes finless brown trout. Go figure. Haven't tried the F word.
Ladd Bovey, aka boeingpilot, is retired USAF LT Col. pilot. Now flys for UPS. I have known him for a long time- well over 20 years by now also many others who were part of a little pre-internet club and quarterly mag called The Plane News, then IMACS and the magazine name became Miniature Aircraft Quarterly {these are on ebay from time to time}.
