Michael, you know of someone who could arrange a donation for that trophy. Must be a great museum somewhere that would want to display it

I cannot find Clarence Young as being a Bendix recipient. Am I missing something? There is a different "Young" in 1961 who was a RIO on an F4...could that be his son or some relation? Could this be that award?
What is the size of this trophy?

The actual trophy was given out to winners of the Bendix Race and not to lawyers.
This one looks like it could be a smaller presentation item, perhaps in fired pottery.
The original one was huge {3 feet tall I would guess} and had a different base and was metal.

I found a photo of one similar to the one in this thread. It appears that smaller copies were given out, Gold, Silver and what looks like copper.
So my guess is that Mr Young received a presentation version for some aviation industry reason.

Yes, the large trophy is at the Smithsonian and smaller versions where given to the recipients to keep. The one I have is engraved to Col. Young for his involvement in aviation.

By the way. This guy was much more than a lawyer! See his bio.

Yes he was! Early pilot and then worked in the industry and etc! I'd still like to find a reference that actually denotes when this trophy dates from.
Thanks for your post!

Too bad there is no date on the trophy but I guess he got it while working for the department of Commerce between 1926 and 1933.
