Thanks, Michael!
A fine time was indeed had by all, despite the weather. I hope Christian and Ana as well as Bernie and Wendy had safe travel home the next day.
For those who did not have the opportunity to attend, Michael is far too modest regarding the historical research and examples he shared with us, particularly the HAWK line of models, starting with an intricately scribed Lockheed Constellation, expanding to solid models of jets; followed by an amazing range of aircraft and automobile model kits in many scales. Michael described competition in the model airplane kit business as competitive as the actual aircraft industry was in those days; truly fascinating stories.
Bernie constantly amazes us with his modelling skills; revising castings to add correct details, scratchbuilding the struts for a C-47 on floats; simply amazing craftsmanship. Danny Samuels brought us first hand reports and models from across the pond of the current TOTS members and their activities; awaiting his report.
Christan's Argentinian diecast and subscription Sci-Fi models were a rare treat, indeed. The Secrets of the Swordfish are many! His talents include full scale aircraft design to this day, as well. My brief presentation of 1/400 Concorde models by a variety of manufacturers paled in comparison, but echoed Michael and Danny's observations that the Asian manufacturers, using modern automation, are now creating amazingly accurate scale models at nearly toy levels of pricing... but only for well known prototypes.
It would be wonderful to see the new manufacturers venture into older aircraft.. perhaps the famous Curtiss NC-4...which many TOTS members and collectors world wide would be delighted to see! I think it would be a great seller.... Maybe we could petition Hallmark; they like historical subjects ;>)...with big brass ADF loops that double as ornament hangers.
What a wonderful group of people, such great friends. Michael, thanks again for all the organization, running the website, and keeping MAC running smoothly. We also remembered our departed leader and mentor, GR Webster. Keep 'em flying!
Scott
