In an alarming bit of news it has come to me today to learn that the MAC Founder and our mentor, Geoffrey Webster, has died in the south of France.
Although he was diagnosed with cancer in November he didn't think it was much of a to-do, or at least he didn't say anything more than to say it would be dealt with.
I am dismayed and discouraged with this very, very sad news. I can easily say that there simply isn't anyone like GR and the work that he has done - and the joy he has given - with continue for years.
The rest of us are left to carry on as best we can - and we shall.
It's time to raise that Dinky to the stars, or send the ERTL Huey to the rice paddies...he has left us.

I was shocked as well when I learnt it. My thoughts are with his family.
I just met GR once in France, but it was truly impressive to speak with him about our favourite topic.

Yes, the only thing I can do from here is to carry on and that's what I will do.

I am truly shocked and saddened by this news. We had exchanged emails in mid December, and I had hoped and prayed for his recovery. He was a great friend and true lover of this area of collecting. My condolences to this family. I will miss him!!

Here's the great picture we took in Frostproof last year. Do you think he knew his day was coming? Could that be the true impetus to sell his awesome collection?
Now...an event that will become the thing of legend!
I will be reviewing more of my photos from that event...RIP, GR!

I am terribly saddened by this news.

I feel honored and blessed to have become acquainted with GR through the MAC Forum.

I greatly respect his service to the United States - additionally, the selfless manner in which approached collecting will serve as a lasting model for us all.

This is very sad news. I wondered why GR was selling off his collection and wishing to turn the forum over to someone else. He was a very interesting man and did a lot for the hobby. He will be missed. RIP, GR.

No one can replace GR, but we will have to move forward as best we can.

Very sad to hear .Remember fondly the Plane News shows in New Jersey.Thats where I first heard the phrase"You never know what comes through that door".

I never met GR physically, but we exchanged many emails for a few years.
He suggested me to join the MAC website, and I did. I was supposed to meet him
in the south of France in 2011, but it didn't happen. We did exchange many photos
of rare or unknown toy aircraft and I helped him with his last book of Dinky Aircraft.
He was a very knowledgeable collector and an excellent pilot, honorable member of the USAF.
I recently had written him about a very rare Caudron aeroplane, but he never mentioned
anything regarding his health. I am very sorry to hear of his sudden passing.
I hope we all can continue his collecting efforts, started with The Plane News and the MAC website.
May he rest in peace. We will all miss him.

This marks the passing not just of the man, but of an era. From Plane News, to MAQ, to MAC forum, to his blurb books, he was everywhere for so many of us. I only met him once (photo above), but I have dozens of e-mails from him, as he kept up with my collecting fortunes. I feel like I have known him forever. Rest easy, GR.
