B-36 Takeoff and Flight

Not sure if this belongs here but a friend sent me an interesting video link on a B36 and I know Michael and a few others would appreciate. Remember, "Six Turnin' and Four Burnin", six props and the four jets that were hung out on the wing to help the production models get off the ground. Worth it for the sound - six piston and four jet engines

You will also see Brigadier General Jimmy Stewart on the jump seat. Note the instruments and engine controls at the Flight Engineer station. Also note that the Co-Pilot controls the Jet engines while the Flight Engineer controls the pistons

And I do! ...from the movie Strategic Air Command, well worth seeing for a variety of aviation subjects! One of the best "old time" aviation movies!

I like to watch that movie whenever it shows up on TCM. Eerily prescient is the scene where a civilian DC-3 airliner is used to deliver an attack force onto an Air Force Base...

Dennis, I am sure all of us are interested in these types of videos, and thanks for this one.
I just read that Jimmy Stewart was awarded double DFCs during WW2 mission in Europe, and those DFC were not the BS ones that some got after 50 missions, his were for specific combat achievement , twice. He continued to serve in the reserves after WW2 and retired as a General, I think MG.

Civil aviation fans enjoy that scene since it involves a Central Airlines DC-3! A small regional airline based in Ft.Worth (duh!) which is where Carswell is/was. And guess what? Jimmy Stewart was a board member of Central!
Nice footage of a rare bird under any circumstances....soldiers?...just another movie scene...
The B-36 rotates...the music swells!....he's taking off to the south from Carswell. The road you see just to the side is White Settlement and there were numerous place where spotters could pull off and watch traffic...did it myself for about a decade. Of course there was a B-36 in the field just up the way, but I had to accept watching the B-52s take off instead
