Ideatoy

Postby MichaelB » Thu Jun 24, 2010 4:45 pm

Just got this one in - fascinating study in toy making. Ideatoy was a brief inspiration from Ideal Toys in the late 1940s. This is obviously a Boeing 307 Statroliner, although there is little to commend it as being an even remotely "accurate" model. I suppose work had started on this during WWII, or before, and had been delayed. It has all the look of a pre-war model, with the large, ribbed wheels and thick plastic.
Even with the genesis unknown, it's a fascinating look at a short lived line.
Eight inch wingspan with very thick, very hard red plastic otherwise. Ideatoy logo and Made in U.S.A. under the wing.
Someone has tried to reattach the broken stabilizers with Squadron green putty, and it's missing it's props and one tire.

I like that one. Bob Strauß contributed a photo of his example in an old TPN (the B-17 issue), in red also.

I have some pressed steel and tin toys that could be Stratoliners, though they are less realistic than the Ideatoy.
