Beautiful models, Ladd. Any nice stories on where you found them in such mint condition?
Say is that a first class airliner seat you have?
No cigars for one week! Miss them but apparently not addicted.

Another comment on looking at your display. Where is a KC-135 tanker. You flew those for a long time, no? Not even an Aero Mini one?

727 Pilot,

I just reread your post. You asked about the LH 737 not the 727. The 737 is either Topping or Rolen. It is clearly a -100 series. If LH had ordered those models at the time they ordered 737's I would guess Topping was the manufacturer. Notice the tip of the radome is silver. I don't know that LH ever painted to radomes that way which could indicate this was a preliminary paint scheme and that the models were ordered before they actually received the aircraft. Silver paint on radomes can be problematic!

Somebody can probably give us a way to tell if 737 and 727 models are Topping or Rolen.

For GR

This is an old photo. The -135's live in my office behind glass today. I have five versions of the Allyn/PacMin -135 model now. The small plastic ones are Topping in tanker and transport version. I wish I could be as diligent as you in cataloging planes as they enter the collection.

Sorry about the photo quality. Someday I'll have to get a real camera and learn how to use it.

Too bad about the cigar thing. I opened the box of Fuente Double Chateau which I was saving for my next visit to the Alligator Lodge. Man, are they smooth!

Cheers,

Ladd

nothing precludes an occasional cigar, but i was smoking two a day some times. I still have a few cubans at the lodge which I will enjoy, just not very day and I won't restock, so save a few of those Double Chateaux for your next visit.

Michael,

For years I have been using the tray table on a set of American Airlines first class seats as the backdrop for my photos. It seems to be neutral and uncluttered but occasionally gets noticed for what its is.

The seats do have a story but let's just stick to talking about models and toys :o

My Braniff 707 was an ebay score while the LH 727 I acquired from fellow UPS pilot and insane collector Dan Wells.

Thanks, Ladd.

I also have a model like this. There are three features I don't like about it: The grey radome (as you pointed out), the yellow Lufthansa-logos on the fuselage and the jets - and the beige stand. A black one would have been more Lufthansa-like.

Your 1/100 Verkuyl 727 is in very good condition! Verkuyl also made two other versions of the Lufthansa 727-100 in 1/100 scale: One in your 1960s livery with the newer Lufthansa-titles (small lettering) on the fuselage, and one in the 1970s livery.

All the best!

Michael
