Brass Spit Mystery

Postby soslipstream » Wed Dec 01, 2010 3:17 pm

This is an actual vintage brass (once plated) Spitfire Mk IB circa 1941. It has a wingspan of 7-1/2" which makes it about 1/55 scale. I am curious if anyone may help with some research? On the port side are numbers, 111271 that were carefully scribed into the brass. Do they have any significance? It features a single radiator on the belly, a 3-bladed Rotol airscrew and a flat top Perspex canopy. Is there any chance that this was once a desk model with one of the Eagle Squadrons?

Many Thanks, Tom
