Bernard Macaire had this plane in his collection, but the Boisgerard auction page did not identify the manufacturer. It was in a more subdued camouflage paint scheme.

Note that Batman printed on the fuselage, as well as the figurine under the canopy, is wearing GREEN ! ! !

This plane has the original box. The owner is very proud of his possession, and is asking several thousand dollars for this one !

Incredibly, I saw this Daito Batman helicopter bring $3150, with no box!!

Wow!!

That is one rockin' robin, Robin! The lithographed faces look more realistic than the green Batman. Do you think they were official toys? I don't! I also think they might be Japan-only, but I cannot say for sure; perhaps the superhero fans could elaborate. Calling Dr Sheldon Cooper?

I agree that this one was made for the Japanese market.

Here is some more information for the Batman Helicopter from a completed Hake's auction. This example has a shiny chrome finish rather than gold.

UNUSUAL Tin Toy Airplanes Mic 52

Postby Tone » Sun Apr 01, 2012 2:17 am

Here is the Mic 52 tin plane made in France possibly 50s but maybe earlier. This one is silver, but the one in Frédéric Marchand's book is red. Wing span is 8 1/2" and power is wind-up. Note the multiple cheat lines and the skids below the wingtips.

UNUSUAL Tin Toy Airplane: Chilean DC1

Postby Tone » Mon Apr 16, 2012 2:28 am

I enjoy learning new things. Here is an incredible Chilean DC-1 from the 1930s, seen on an on-line auction. Maker is Vasquez, probably from Valparaiso, as the plane says "Vasquez Valpo" on it.

UNUSUAL Tin Toy Airplane - SABENA Caravelle

Postby Tone » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:33 am

Does anybody have more information on the maker of this rusty, broken SABENA Caravelle seen on line recently?

The color scheme looks realistic. The jet pods are all tin. It has a single friction motor housing beneath the wings unlike the Arnold. Maybe Joustra or even GAMA? The plane looks to be larger than the Tipp Co/J Wagner Caravelle and it does not look like the Tomiyama United Caravelle I have.

UNUSUAL Tin Toy 727-S.A.A.

Postby Tone » Sun Jul 15, 2012 4:51 pm

Here is an amazing SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS (Suid-Afrikaans Lugdiens) 727 Springbok seen on a South African toy auction site.

I wonder if the other, port side reads "Suid-Afrikaans Lugdiens" - no photos were posted.

It's named "Limpopo" (An African river) and has a rounded nose - so it might be based on Caravelle tooling (Compare it to the Rusty SABENA Caravelle I posted recently).

Maker unknown, no trade mark seen or identified. Appears to be similar tooling to the Twin-jet United "727" with shiny chrome finish that's found with the "KA" trademark. Wing span is 365 mm or 14".

UNUSUAL small Tin Toy Airplane

Postby Tone » Tue Jul 24, 2012 1:43 pm

This little yellow plane resides in Sofia, Bulgaria. The owner/seller describes it as an Italian military aircraft but the red star on the nose suggests an indigenous eastern European origin. It appears to be closely related to the Japanese Saito S2 brand planes and the Spanish Payva line.

UNUSUAL Tin Airplane -Pioneer brand bomber

Postby Tone » Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:17 pm

Here is a new brand to me: Pioneer Industrial (Private) Ltd. Calcutta.

The plane almost looks like a Bandai toy I have.

I have also seen this in green, without the box.

Note the symbol on each wing, a horse in a circle with a gold Pan Am-style wing.
