This is the only example of an autogiro "penny toy" that I've seen.

The toy is unmarked and is in the same style as a number of both German and Japanese pre-war airplane penny toy examples.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it was made in Japan simply because it features an early piece of plastic tube that suspends the main rotor above the fuselage. I'm not sure the Germans would have incorporated plastic into the design.

I have two examples with different paint schemes. They're the only ones I've ever seen.

OK - I now have yet another "holy grail" to add to my list...

I was checking out the excellent website that belong to EC-ABS :

http://avionesjuguete.blogspot.com.es/s ... ici%C3%B3n

As I worked my way through all the terrific resources, I found this (unknown to me) autogiro toy.

If anyone has an extra example laying around, please send me a message!

I imagine I may have to wait for a very long time - EC-ABS, an authority on vintage toys from Spain, says it's the only example he's ever seen. A prototype, maybe?

I'd say it was certainly modeled after the Marke Technofix No. 231 autogiro.

Take a look:

I've got one, too. It's a 1:87th scale diecast rendition of the Japanese Army's Kayaba Ka-1 autogyro, which was used operationally during WW2 for artillery spotting, mainly. The model comes from The Hachette Collections Japan series which I subscribe to. Here's a picture:Image

Is the Paya a copy of the CK one above?

Maybe... there are definitely elements of the CK there. But, I tend to think it more closely resembles the Technofix autogiro in design and scale.

Vintage Tin Autogiro Variants

Postby Tone » Sun Feb 16, 2014 4:07 pm

I find the different toys by different manufacturers, that look so similar but are obviously variants, fascinating, especially since they may be manufactured "locally."

My latest autogiro purchase:

A "Helm-O-Copter Auto-Gyro" made by New Ideas Specialty CO. Inc. out of Detroit, Michigan.

Helm-O-Copter Auto-Gyro

This is a great bicycle accessory, my second airplane-related bike accessory as a matter of fact (see viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1367&p=6820&hilit=bicycle#p6820)

I'd guess 1940s...

Any other ideas?
