A C Rehberger China Clipper Chapter II

Postby sandmanoverhaul » Fri Dec 16, 2016 9:35 pm

A couple of years back I won an intact Rehberger B-314 Clipper. Knowing enough about these, I requested the seller to dismount the model from the support arm. He took to the UPS Store and they assured him that their packing methods are the best in the business and would not need to be separated. No surprise when the assembly should up it was in pieces. The top of the support arm features a v-bottom attachment pad that matches the hull and on the half where the model would be bolted had sheared off the support arm staying attached to the model. What to do? Took a year of thought to come up with a solution. In the end a combination of embedded brass tubes and music wire, soldered brass plate, metal casting material and, when cured, a tedious process of re-shaping the support. I can guarantee this.... it is now stronger than the method used by AC Rehberger!!

Cheers, Tom
