More Wyandottes

Postby soslipstream » Fri Mar 16, 2012 2:37 pm

One has to wonder if the individuals whom created the toys and the tooling to produce the vintage pressed steel airplanes ever took one off the line and had some fun on their own. Though these toy airplanes were never meant to be scale models , Wyandotte did achieve credible, recognizable renditions . With a just a little extra detail one could really have some fun. In that spirit comes two Wyandotte toy airplanes raised out of forgotten oblivion. The first is a Stratocrusier (B-377) and the second, a Super Mainliner (DC-4E). Both were found missing wheels, props, cowls and even landing gear. Given those baselines to begin with, their overhauls began..

Ahh, so sorry, both of our excursion aircraft have already been fully booked. You will have to make your reservations early on our next unveil at Sandman's Golden Age Airport ;)

Before moving onto other projects, I took a picture similar to the famous Margret Bourke-White photo.

Looks like a Barclay and a Matchbox #11 tanker to re-fuel the plane.

Yes, and the search is still pending for better set pieces. I have a friend who wants me to create an Art Deco style Av Fuel Tanker featuring his Barclay auto transport tractor. The plan so far is a wood tank with steel skirts and wheels and axles inside the skirts. The size will scale pretty well with the Charlmar DC-7.
