Any USAF Comet is weird. We had a brief discussion about these toys in the past year. I had no photo to contribute at the time. I have a lot of tin toys from Louis Marx but this is one of the few plastic ones. As I recall nobody knew for certain what the ring was for, though the best suggestion was for dipping the toy in jet wash.

I'm not sure exactly, but I do remember as a kid that some plastic plane toys with rings were sold as christmas tree ornaments. All it needed was a nice fancy string.
