F-100 Super Sabre ID Model Question

Postby dmessimer » Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:50 pm

I'm on the hunt for an original post war F-100 Super Sabre US Government ID model and was hoping someone here knows if it was produced in black or gray, and with or without a clear canopy?

Unfortunately, I loaned out my copy of Mikesh's '84 recognition model list a few years back and it never returned, but seem to recall these were produced in black and without the clear canopy.

Any photos of one on display?

I don't know of any black Verkuyl F-100 IDs, but if you are interested in a good metal model of this Jet, look out for a Fomaer. They made the F-100 in scale 1/50 out of aluminium with and without clear canopy.

I have the Fomaer F-84F and F-100D in my collection. Really nice models that you don't see on the market too often.

I happen to have the Mikesh article and, curiously, the F-100 was one of only two models where he was unable to supply any information about the canopy or the color of the plastic.

Hmmmm ... I'm beginning to wonder if a post war example of the F-100 really does exist. I have the 1/72nd scale F-101, F-102, F-104 and F-105 post war grey models, so I know those are out there.

Anyone have any photographic proof one was ever manufactured?

I believe that the F-100 was made as an ID model. There's a company in Dallas----The Collector's Airmodel Company ( aircraftmodels.com )----that sells copies of the original ID models made from rubber molds. They list the F-100 as no longer being available, which means that the mold they made is no longer usable. They also indicate that the original's color was black. The proprietor is a fellow named Charles Fleming, who took over after the founder, Dick Miller, passed on. You might contact him and, perhaps, he can tell you more about the F-100 in its original form.

Ed, any chance you could email me the list of models or even post it on the site?
I have a decent selection of post war gray, blue and black ids but don't have an F-100.

Sorry to learn of Dick Miller's passing. I corresponded with him back when he first started up the company.
I wish he would have made a copy of the BV 222, that would have been impressive.

I'm not very computer savvy, GR, so I took a picture of the list from the Mikesh article. Now, let's see if I can post it.Image
